Hospice for dogs

I wish they had hospice for dogs. Well we have decided to do our own version of it at our home. Yesterday we got really sad news about our dog Chewy. I took him into the vet to get groomed and have his routine shots. Along with all that they did his test for heart worms. Well Chewy tested positive for heart worms. The vet has said that we can try and fix it for around $500 but that it is not guaranteed that it won't happen again. Given Chewy's age and the fact that our living situation might change soon we decided to just take the wait and see approach. This way Chewy will be able to enjoy the remainder of his life without having to take meds and go to the doctor every couple of weeks. As soon as he is giving us signals that it is time, we will with very heavy hearts put him down to go to puppy heaven. We have explained all of this to Kai and she seems to grasp it all but it still makes her sad to know that he doggie is sick. And that makes me sad too.
