Soapbox Time
I hardly ever get on my soapbox but today is one of the rare occasion that I will do so. Last night while I was waiting for Kai to finish with her activity at Church i was visiting with some friends. We were joking about things that we all wish we could have like a live in maid, personal chef, personal trainer, husbands that travel for work less, kids that mind, and so forth when the topic of conversation switched to schools and in particular bus riding in the district. One of my friends had just got in the mail a bill for over $600 from last year because her daughter rides the bus. In this district if you live outside of the 2 mile radius of your school you can ride the bus for free. However, if you live inside of that 2 miles you are charged $65 a month to have your child ride the bus. ($55 each additional child) I mean come on people!! What the heck is our school tax money going for? We have some of the highest school district taxes in the state and you have audacity to charge a family so that their child can ride the bus to school. It doesn't seem fair or right to me at all! Plus every other week we are getting hit up for more money to support the school. Yearbooks, class pictures, book fairs, fundraisers, restaurant nights, Rosetta Stone software, musical instruments and the list goes on and on. I am just so sick of people, like myself, having to basically "bend over" for the district because no one will put a stop to this ludicrous behavior. If our tax money is not being spent on things like transportation for students then what the heck is it being spent on?
