Home Teaching

We had our home teachers over this evening and had a really good visit with them. Mark and I have been really lucky to have had some great home teachers over the years. As the teachers were leaving one of them asked us what all home teachers are supposed to ask when closing the discussion "Is there anything that you need or that we can do for you?" The other one said that it seems weird to ask that because most people won't say what they need done even if they really need some help. Just that little remark gave Mark and I a chance to bear our testimonies on home teaching. We assured these gentlemen that if we ever needed anything we would not hesitate to let them know. Early on in our marriage (less than 2 years into it) we were living in Lubbock at the time and we unfortunately were contemplating divorce. Mark and I were fighting all the time and we just thought that no matter how much we loved each other that all of the fighting wasn't good for Kai and that we probably shouldn't be together. Heavenly Father must have been listening to all of our prayers because he sent a wonderful home teacher by the name of Josh Britton into our home. Josh was the Elder's Quorum President at the time and came to our house every month faithfully. But on one particular visit when he asked the question "Can I do anything for you?" we unloaded all of our problems on him. At the time we didn't know but Josh was going to school to be a therapist and he offered to set up up with one of the family therapists at his practice. Mark and I agreed to go to couples counseling and after many sessions ended up fixing our marriage. We owe our marriage and family to a wonderful home teacher. Mark and I both have such a strong testimony of home teaching. Home teachers are the eyes and ears for the Bishop since he can not be in every home at all times. Without diligent home teachers who knows what our family would be like. So to all the men that do their home teaching I say thank you. You may never know just what impact you may have on a family. And if anyone from Lubbock is reading this and stays in contact with Josh Britton tell him that the Hurst Family says hi and thanks for everything.
